This year sees the 30th year since Davison’s was first established. It all started when founder Ian Davison opened a small chocolate shop below the family home in 1988 selling a delicious range of handmade chocolates. These were produced at the back of the shop behind a glass screen so that customers could watch the whole process.
In 1993, Ian decided the expansion was needed as the business had outgrown the small manufacturing unit in the shop, and so a custom built unit was built a stones throw away from the shop at the top of Station Road.
In 1995, the decision was made to look at the possibility of producing ice cream in the new factory to try and plato out the varied demand for chocolates throughout the year by making a new product in the lower demand periods. Originally Ian set out to make ice cream for our own shop The Chocolate Box, but after customers had bought and tried the ice cream word spread and the customer numbers increased. This led to further expansion into the premises we have today and the rest is history.
We now operate brand new state of the art ice cream equipment from Rokk UK and produce over 50 different flavours with many new batch specials being made through the year. The company now employs over 20 staff throughout the year and many more in peak season. The business is still being run by the Davison’s family with 3 generations now involved in the day to day running.
